Serves 8-10

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon finely chopped onion
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 10 hotdogs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil

Directions:

Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, powder, and salt. Add onion, egg and milk. Let mixed batter stand 15 minutes.
Put wooden skewers in hotdogs. Heat oil until small amount of flour mixture sizzles. Coat hotdog completely in mixture and put in hot oil. Continue with the rest of the hotdogs and brown on each side, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Drain and serve with catsup and mustard.
