Materials:

  • Modeling Compound or self drying clay
  • Butter knife
  • Tooth pick

Directions:

Decide on what foods you would like to make. Mix together modeling compound or self-drying clay to make the colors you will need. It is better to mix in small amounts because the clay or compound might dry fast.

For layer cake make, four small round balls, two out of a brown color, two out of pink color. Flatten the balls into small circles with the palm of your hand or finger depending on how small you are making your food. Use butter knife to cut away any extra edges. Then smooth sides with finger. Make a small ball out of red for a cherry on top.

For oranges, make a small ball for each orange. Use toothpick to add texture.

For carrots, make a thin, orange cylinder for each carrot. Pinch one end to make a point. Use fingernail to add little lines across cylinder. Add green at fatter end. Use your fingernail to shred green into leaves.

For grapes, roll about nine small balls. Stick them together forming a point on one side and gradually getting bigger on the other side. Make a small triangle for leaf. Use side of toothpick to add veins to leaf. Put leaf behind top of grapes.

For watermelon, flatten out some of the green color to a thin rectangle. Roll red into a cylinder. Place red cylinder on top in the middle of green rectangle. Roll the green sides up over the red cylinder. Cut small slices. Then cut each slice into a triangle. Add black seed beads for seeds.

For pumpkin, roll orange clay or compound together into a ball. Put an indentation on the top. Use toothpick side to make lines from the indentation to the bottom. Make a small fat cylinder of green. Place green cylinder inside indentation.

When done designing play food, set aside and let compound or clay dry according to directions.
