First get him into some counseling. Then get yourself into a support group for wives of military men who are gone. You need to be able to call on other adults (preferably men) who can come to your home when your older son acts out and starts pushing you. If he does it again I would call the police and have them talk with him. He has to know there is ZERO tolerance for it!!!! Back to your 6 year old... try also enrolling him in a sort of martial art. If he enjoys it then that can be incentive for doing well in school. When he doesn't do his work then he doesn't get to go to practice . Sometimes it's a really good release for them too and martial arts especially teaches discipline and self motivation. I hope some of this is helpful.
